This is the first time I’ve made a landscape. When I started working leather in 2009 I lived in Dallas and natural scenes did not resonate - I made highway overpasses and gas stations instead - things that reflected my lived experience in the city. Now I live in New Mexico where the land and the light are ever present. This piece is based on a photo I took out at Ghost Ranch, of a mesa I’ve hiked many times - so it rings vibrant and true, and it feels good to share the beauty of this place I call home.
